Mapping the World by Heart

Mapping the World by Heart

"I am thrilled that FableVision Learning has opened its doors to the Mapping the World by Heart curriculum. Teachers in my school district have used this approach to learning geography for many years and we are thrilled that the curriculum, adaptable to all grade levels, will be available for years to come.

David Smith has visited classrooms and given presentations on this exciting curriculum at several programs sponsored by the North Dakota Geographic Alliance. As Alliance Coordinator, I feel really happy to know that we can look forward to many more years of helping teachers around the state, around the country, and around the world discover this marvelous opportunity for students to learn to map the world by heart while discovering they are part of a world village!"

"Our 7th grade has mapped by heart for 4 years, and it is without a doubt one of the highlights of their educational experiences. 1) What we notice most is how the students are stretched beyond what they think they are capable of doing and feel so proud of their great accomplishment at the end of the school year. Graduates of the program come into our classrooms to reminisce and look at current students' maps (of course, none are as good as theirs!) 2) One of the most important aspects of [Mapping the World by Heart] is that STUDENTS OF ALL LEARNING STYLES have a picture of the world in their heads for the rest of their lives. Usually the "tactile/kinesthetic" and "process" students excel at the maps because their creativity has an outlet in an academic course. Even our RSP students with learning disabilities amaze their parents with their accomplishments! In 4 years we have not had one student who was unable to do the maps, though some needed templates or easier checklists. 3) The California framework for history/social sciences does not allow for a specific geography course, so we integrate this program with 7th grade World History. It is a perfect blend."

"Drawing a memory map was one of the most valuable lessons I had in school. The experience gave me a better sense of the world from a geographical and cultural point of view and as a business major here at Cornell, that has been very helpful (as an added bonus I can still always answer the geography questions in Trivial Pursuit)."

— Former Seventh Grader, Now In College

"Before, when I heard the name of a country, I just thought of it as a name, and it didn't really matter to me. After you do a memory map, it's kinda neat because you can picture it in your mind, not only that country and what it's like there, but everything else around it. You have a map in your head wherever you go."

— Seventh Grader, Belmont, MA

"It seems impossible at the beginning of the year, but it's really possible and it's really satisfying. It's a year of learning how to push yourself."

— Seventh Grader, Cambridge, MA

"Mapping the World by Heart is wonderful. I homeschooled my daughter for four years and it was the best single piece of instructional help I found on any topic."

"I love Mapping the World by Heart! I am also teaching the Mapping the U.S. by Heart section to 11 kids in our homeschool group. I would recommend this to anyone that wants their child (or themselves) to learn geography. We have lots of fun with it, while learning quickly and easily."

"I purchased Mapping the World by Heart for my 11, 9, and 7 year old children. I love the concept of them being able to draw the world by heart. This year we have decided to focus on the section that leads you through drawing the US by heart.  We have really enjoyed it and are so excited to reach our goal.  I love this product but I think thats it important to note that it does not teach you how to draw the world. It does give you pointers and guides that help you figure out how to teach it to your family along with other information about each continent.  Even with that in mind I would recommend this product."

"Mapping the World By Heart is a fantastic product! My son had to leave traditional school due to a medical problem. It was not until I started homeschooling that I realized he had virtually no knowledge of geography. I believe that you can't find your way in the world if you don't know where you are in the world. This program not only teaches the vital geography skills that I learned during my Catholic school upbringing, but it also adds a new dimension to the old school memorization. The activities are challenging, fun and make an impact! My son loves it! My daughter, who continues at her public school, is also learning geography through this amazing system. After seeing how much fun my son was having, she insisted that she be able to learn with him. I could not be stronger in my opinion of this product. This is one of the best educational products to which I have ever been exposed.  This should be a definite buy for any parent, homeschooler or not!"

"We really like Mapping the World By Heart. Our Curriculum requires that the student be able to draw and label the World by the time they graduate. This will make that task so much easier.  This is built into our memory work each week. My daughter (9) loves the different shapes or figures that are in the maps. She shares these with the other children. We will use this all the way through High School. I share this each time it comes up in conversation. It is a wonderful addition to our World History."
